Music Lessons

Music lessons should be ENJOYABLE, not a chore. Our students don’t just play what they love in the classroom – they practice at home, play in recitals and shows, and work together with their peers in other music venues. Whether you are a beginner, or playing at an intermediate or advanced level, our teachers can help you reach the next stage with music lessons at Southeast Texas School of Music .

Piano

Southeast Texas School of Music has lessons for all ages.   Piano instruction is offered weekly as either 1hr group lessons for our beginners or 30 minute private lessons for our more advanced students. Lessons are available for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels in a variety of different styles such as classical/traditional, jazz, rock, contemporary, Christian, blues, gospel, etc. Additionally, our staff specializes in teaching and developing improvisational skills and reading from lead sheets. Whatever style of piano you would like to learn, our instructors are ready to customize a lesson plan for you.

Our piano students will be encouraged to participate in regular recitals and on-going performance opportunities.  While students are not required to participate, we believe these performances help motivate and propel the student to continued improvement, as well as create confident performers who feel comfortable on a stage and in front of an audience.

It’s the perfect place for most students to start because of the foundational music knowledge piano lessons provide, including technique, theory, and a simple, linear understanding of the grand staff. And once you have that foundation, you can take it anywhere: from impressive classical pieces, to your favorite pop song, to adding another instrument to your resume. Piano lessons are absolutely the best way for every music lover to immerse themselves in music.

Voice

If your goal is to sing on the worship team at church, land the part in your high school musical, audition for a community theater production, sing at an open mic, front your own band, or simply sing your heart out – we have an expert who is the perfect fit for you. Students of all ages and levels of ability are welcome.

Our students not only learn to sing – they learn to perform and be comfortable in front of an audience. While students are not required to participate, we believe these performances help motivate and propel the student to continued improvement, as well as create confident performers.

All vocal students at Southeast Texas School of Music focus each week on the development of their vocal range, ear training, stage presence, singing on pitch, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. Between the ages of 5 - 11, the vocal chords have not yet fully matured, and thus instructors take care to focus on repertoire that is both fun and enjoyable while still nurturing to the developing voice. As the vocal chords mature at the age of 12, students are introduced to additional repertoire such as worship music, classical arias/etudes, Broadway, pop, and jazz selections, and pieces the student is interested in learning!

Our voice teachers are professionals and have significant teaching and performing experience. If you love to sing, you'll love learning to develop and nurture your singing voice with them.  Just give us call, tell us a little bit about what you're looking for, and we'll get you started.

Guitar.

Our guitar lessons include acoustic, electric, bass guitar and ukulele. Our instructors are all hand picked for their high level of communication and teaching skills as well as for their abilities to inspire and motivate.

Guitar lessons are available in 1hr group lessons or as 30 minute one on one private lessons for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Guitar students will learn to read standard as well as "tab" music notation, play melodies, chords, and improvise.

Guitar lessons at Southeast Texas School of Music are enhanced by the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a rock band setting put together by the instructors, or how to perform solo in one of our recitals. Our guitar instructors teach and perform in many different styles, so whether you're interested in learning classical guitar technique or are ready to rock and roll, we can create a program specifically tailored to your goals.

Drums.

Instruction in drums/percussion is available in all different styles such as jazz, latin, rock, and more! Beginning students will typically begin their studies with the snare drum and gradually work up to learning the full set. Intermediate and Advanced students will work from customized lesson plans to achieve weekly and long term goals.

Our drum/percussion staff work with every student to provide the type of instruction that meets their learning needs and help them reach their performance goals. All instruction starts with the basics of music theory as it relates to the drum. But, each instructor will also work with the student to find out where their musical passions lie (marching band, orchestra, rock band, etc.) and help the student learn by incorporating the kind of music they relate to best.
